The incident happened on Saturday, Jan. 27 just before 1 p.m., when a box truck crashed into the Bedford Road overpass on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway near Exit 28 in Pleasantville, according to Westchester County Police Public Information Officer Kieran O'Leary.
The collision damaged the truck's cargo area and caused debris to scatter on the parkway, forcing authorities to close the northbound lanes for a cleanup. The lanes were eventually reopened at 2:40 p.m., and the truck was towed away.
The driver of the truck was a 41-year-old woman from Columbia, South Carolina, O'Leary said, adding that she was the vehicle's only occupant and was not injured. The truck had been registered to a South Carolina-based company.
The driver's name was not released.
According to O'Leary, the driver told police that she had been following the GPS on her phone and had not known that trucks weren't allowed on the parkway despite signs and pavement markings at parkway entrances indicating this rule.
She was eventually issued summonses for having a restricted vehicle on the parkway and failing to obey a traffic control device, O'Leary said.
